We visited the Salesians project in Belem of Para, North of Brazil, (3,250 KM from Rio de Janeiro). We also had the chance to visit an encampment in the Town of Ananindeua (30 minutes from the capital Belem).
We were very happy to have found modern and active projects that always looked for self- sustainability and the generation of opportunities to young people in Para State.
In our meeting we have identified many important projects that could bring significant results and opportunities to the youngsters in the region, that’s why Children’s Aid decided to be part in the following projects:
Ananindeua
One of the poorest communities we have ever visited, without
sanitation, recreation areas, schools, hospitals and with
many children living in precarious conditions, without any
opportunities to develop themselves.
We want to work together with the Salesians in the building of a community space from which we can promote education and different social campaigns to children and families in the community raising awareness of important subjects like Health, hygiene, etc…
The plan is to have sports and recreation area for the younger part of the community to have a nice and safe environment to socialise.
In Para the Salesians have got a good number of volunteers, which will be vital for the project to work.
We are following up all the progress from the UK and in December / January we will be there to contribute and make a difference to many children in the Ananindeua region.
Sports
Inside the Salesian School of work we are going to
develop a project with our partners Fluminense launching the
“Sportive Education project” in the community
of Belem where we aim to benefit hundreds of kids.
With the same characteristics of the Posse project we aim to set up a self-sustainable project from which the benefits will go to the youngsters taking part of this project and the sport’s school.
