Children’s Aid’s project with Avicres is focused upon sports and our partnership with Fluminense Sports Education, and with national and international volunteers who are developing projects with, and partaking in the daily lives of, the children of Avicres.
Sports Project
Children’s Aid has brought sports activities to the
children of ‘Sitio das Criancas’ and ‘Casa
do Amor’, providing them with free sports activities.
The surrounding community of Posse are also being offered
these activities at popular prices. This is the first ever
Premiership sports school inside of an orphanage in Brazil.
The first action to be taken was to re-structure the existing sports area, particularly the main pitch that is to be used for football, basketball and volleyball. This pitch and the stands needed to be painted, and a small athletics track constructed. It is here that the children are to be introduced to sports. Children’s Aid will continue to improve this space as the sports programme continues to grow.
One of Children’s Aid objectives is to transform the project into one that is self-sustainable where the income from rentals, the popular sports school and events will be used to pay teachers, the transportation costs of volunteers and for improvements and for any repairs of the area.
Our mission in this project is to bring sports activities to children. Focusing upon their development through healthy activities that will benefit them physically, mentally and socially.
Volunteers
Children’s Aid has met all the directors, workers and
of course the children at Avicres. Not only has Children’s
Aid visited Avicres, but also our Brazilian, British, Spanish
and French volunteers have stayed there for one week. Admiration
of the Avicres project and the amazing results that they achieve
with their children has motivated Children’s Aid to
start this great partnership.
The Children’s Aid volunteers had a great time there with the kids and organised many recreational and reading activities with them. One of the nicest things is when the volunteers return to their countries and continue to promote the kids cause, having seen the real thing and been involved with the projects.
Children’s Aid volunteers organise parties, events and trips for the children as well as campaigns to collect toys and clothes to them.
As of October we will have British volunteers that will be living at the Avicres orphanages in order to help with the activities developed between Children’s Aid and this institution. Thereby increasing the international exchange with children in Brazil.
